About the book
Water Hyacinths is a collection of short stories built around the seven colours of the spectrum. Each story opens with a flashback and carries into the present. Violet takes us to rural Bengal, red to a city in Madhya Pradesh, indigo to Mumbai and green to Delhi. Yellow is set in Kolkata; blue moves from Uttar Pradesh to Delhi to Uttarakhand; orange travels from rural Punjab across the country.
It is as much a story of landscapes as of simple relationships. Objects become metaphors, and the stories evolve around them.
